Have Children And Want A Dog? A Bernedoodle Is A Great Choice

If you have children who are begging for a dog, a Bernedoodle would make a great choice for your family. The Bernedoodle is a cross between a poodle and a Bernese mountain dog. Keep reading to learn more about this breed so you and your children can see why this would be a good choice for you.

Bernedoodle Size

Poodles come in three sizes, tiny, mini, and standard. Bernese mountain dogs come in one size and are known as large dogs. How large your Bernedoodle will get depends on the poodle the Bernese mountain dog was bred with. Make sure you ask the breeder about the poodle so you will be sure. You do not want to think you are going to have a small dog and end up with a much larger one or want a large dog and end up with a very small one.

Bernedoodle Fur

Their fur may be straight like a Bernese mountain dog, curly like a poodle, or somewhere in between. One thing to consider when choosing the Bernedoodle is if their coat is straighter, they will likely shed more.  Many people look for Bernedoodles with curly hair because they are more hypoallergenic since they shed much less. You also may find a Bernedoodle with curly hair may be more expensive as well. To keep their fur healthy, give your dog a good brush two or three times a week and take them to a groomer when their hair becomes too long.

Living With

A Bernedoodle is only happy if they live in the house with their humans, but they also love to go outside. These are active dogs and love to go running, swimming, hiking, etc. They are just as happy snuggling with you and your children at the end of the day. If you are the type of family that stays busy this is a good choice. If you are the type of family that is less active, you may want to look for another breed.  They also do not like being left alone for long periods of time.

Their Personality

The Bernedoodle is a kind, loving, and goofy dog that makes a great family pet. They especially love children. Get a Bernedoodle when your children are young, and they can grow up together.  These dogs may be scared around people they don't know so make sure you socialize them starting at a young age. Take the dog to a trainer as they are intelligent, and this will benefit them.
