Learn About The Dogo Argentino

If you are interested in getting a dog, you should spend some time looking at the different breeds so you can find one that will fit into your life well. One of the breeds you might be interested in is the Dogo Argentino.

Dogo Argentino

This breed is relatively new. It first appeared in the early part of the 20th century in Argentina. This dog was specifically bred to be a hunting dog for larger game. One of the animals the dog was bred to hunt was the peccary, a wild pig in Argentina. The breed is also called the Argentinian mastiff since it falls into the mastiff type of dog. Most of the foundational stock are mastiff-type dogs, with the rest being working and hunting dogs. That makes the Dogo Argentino a great hunting dog. It also means that they are good dogs for the police or military and search and rescue.

Appearance

The Dogo Argentino is a large dog. Both males and females average between 80 and 100 lbs and are generally 23 and 27 inches tall at their shoulders. Their coloring should be all white. However, breed standards do allow a black spot on the head or face as long as it doesn't take up too much space. Their coat is smooth and short, and they do tend to shed. They do need to be groomed at least once a month, but that may be something that you can do on your own.

Temperament

The Dogo Argentino was bred to be a working and hunting dog. They are very smart and full of energy. You have to give them a job to do. Otherwise, they can become bored, and a bored intelligent, energetic dog is not a good thing. Even if their job is just to do some obedience or agility training every day, they need to have something to do. They can be a good family dog, but you may want to wait until your children are older. They also tend to do better if they are the only pet in the house.

There are as many dog breeds as people who want to have dogs. You should spend some time looking at all the different breeds to make sure that you find one that will work best for you and your family. You want to make sure that you will be happy with your new dog and that your new dog will be happy with you.
